#PutSolarOnIt Nominations

You are invited to imagine where solar panels could be in your community. Think about it. What organizations that you would like to support?  Close your eyes and visualize the actual buildings in your neighbourhood - do you see your local school, a dog shelter, a place of worship, or your community centre (how are you reading this with your eyes closed)? Now open your eyes and check this page to see how to nominate that organization for a chance to have a solar panel installation! It’s easy, just send us your #PutSolarOnIt nominations!

What Is #PutSolarOnIt?

#PutSolarOnIt is a call-to-action for you to see your community differently by envisioning solar energy on roofs everywhere. This is your chance to propose where funds raised for solar projects by Great Climate Race participants are donated. It’s an opportunity to suggest great community organizations you want to help by reducing or eliminating their electricity bill for decades to come. No matter where the projects go we will be reducing greenhouse gas pollution that causes climate change and that helps everyone. The Great Climate Race Renewable Energy Fund will take care of the costs of assessment, purchase of solar panels, installation and maintenance.

You don’t have to be a representative of the organization you would like to see benefit from the solar panels. You can be a fan of their work and admire them from afar or you can be an employee or member of the organization you want to nominate.  For example, do you love dogs and know a rescue that works hard to find forever homes for pets?  Or how about an organization that helps women and children? Solar can be useful to just about anyone who has a roof to help them offset their electricity bill (usually part of monthly overhead) for decades so they can use those extra funds to continue to do great work in the community.  You just need to have an idea and share some basic details.

We will explore the feasibility of all proposals and then shortlist projects based on the potential for the project to generate electricity (direction of room, amount of direct sunlight and shading from trees, buildings, etc.), the level of demonstrated community support and the potential community benefit.
